Management Systems
While there is nothing stopping any business from developing a management system internally, standards based or not, hiring a consultant to assist in doing so has multiple advantages:
- You get a fresh set of eyes to look at your business - even if a business already has an existing management system. As businesses, like individuals, we often are blind to our own idiosyncrasies and inefficiencies.
- You get someone who (hopefully!) has a good understanding of the standards/systems you are implementing.
- A broader experience in systems in a variety of businesses can be valuable in assessing what will and won't work.
- Staff are often more open and honest with an outsider - something your business will need if you really want to change.
- You do not tie your staff up in the mechanics of actually writing and reviewing the system documents.
Our specialties are ISO 9001 Quality, ISO 14001 Environmental and Integrated Management Systems. While we do a lot of the leg-work and project management for you, our focus is on assisting your own people to compile and implement your management system. You will get a far better system, that is well accepted and understood by all your employees this way.
We also offer internal auditing, and external certification auditing to these standards.
We do not offer pro-forma or off-the-shelf management systems in any form.
Our advice is that if a consultant is offering such a thing, you politely run in the opposite direction. They DO NOT WORK. They might get you through your audits a few times, but creating a management system that is not 'owned' at every level of your business is ultimately a waste of time.
